# Swept vs Microsoft 365 Copilot

Copilot is Microsoft's assistant inside Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams. Swept puts every approved model, Copilot included, behind one set of guardrails, so staff can pick the right tool for the job and the rules stay the same.

## The short answer

- **Microsoft 365 Copilot:** Choose it if your staff work in Microsoft 365 all day and one assistant is enough, with Purview already set up to control what it can see.
- **Swept:** Choose it if your people want Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini as well as Copilot, and you need one set of data rules, spend caps and audit trail across all of them.
- **Use both:** If Copilot is already rolled out. Swept can run it as one approved tool and add the other models beside it, under the same guardrails.

## Where each one sits

A carrier's AI shows up in four places. Copilot governs two of them well when the work stays inside Microsoft 365: staff use and agents. Swept covers those across every approved model, plus the AI your vendors ship.

## Side by side

| Capability | Swept | Microsoft 365 Copilot |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Approved access to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot | Built in: Through a private gateway | Partly: Adds Anthropic models in some features; no ChatGPT or Gemini [3] |
| Policyholder data stopped before it reaches a model | Built in: Checked on every request | Partly: Purview DLP blocks sensitive prompts; uploaded files aren't scanned [5] |
| Spend caps by person and department | Built in | Partly: Seats are a flat fee; budgets apply to pay-as-you-go use [8] |
| Workflow agents for claims and underwriting | Built in: Built and run for you | Built in: Build agents in Copilot Studio [9] |
| Inventory of models and AI use | Built in: Approved tools, agents and vendor AI | Add-on: Agent registry in Agent 365, licensed per user [10] |
| Mapped to the NAIC Model Bulletin | Built in | Not stated: No NAIC mapping in public materials |
| Audit log of AI activity | Every interaction | Built in: Copilot activity logged in Purview Audit [6] |
| Pricing | Usage-based, with caps by person and department | $30 per user per month on an annual commitment, plus a Microsoft 365 plan [1] |

## What each does well

### Microsoft 365 Copilot

- Works inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, where most staff already spend the day. [1]
- Only surfaces data each person already has permission to see. [2]
- Purview DLP and sensitivity labels can keep sensitive prompts and labeled files out of responses. [5]

### Swept

- The AI tools your people already want, in their native form.
- Policyholder data checked on every request, before it reaches any model.
- Claims and underwriting agents built and run for you, with human sign-off.

## Try one real task: an adjuster drafts a coverage letter from a claim file

**With Microsoft 365 Copilot:** The adjuster asks Copilot in Outlook to draft the letter from claim files they can already open. If Purview DLP is set to enforce, a prompt with a Social Security number gets no response.

**With Swept:** The adjuster uses Claude or ChatGPT through Swept. Policy numbers and health details are caught before the request leaves your environment, and the draft is logged for review.

## Questions carriers ask

### Is Swept a replacement for Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Usually not. Copilot works inside your Microsoft 365 apps and files. Swept can run Copilot as one approved tool and add Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini beside it, with the same data rules and audit log for all of them.

### Copilot already offers Claude. Why add Swept?

Copilot uses Anthropic models in some features, such as Researcher and Copilot Studio. It doesn't include ChatGPT or Gemini. Microsoft also turns Anthropic models on by default for most commercial tenants, so check your admin settings either way.

### Can Purview do the same data checks?

For Copilot, much of it. Purview DLP can block prompts with sensitive data and keep labeled files out of responses. It doesn't scan files uploaded into a prompt. Swept checks every request to every approved model.
